Obviously Trevor Francis is in this list as the first million pound footballer, when Brian Clough paid Birmingham City that amount to secure our European Cup-winning forward. Stan Collymore broke the £2 million barrier for us when Southend United took home the payday in 1993 and he was another signing that was more than worth the fee. Joao Carvalho had a mixed four years with us after falling out of grace a few times, whereas Taiwo Awoniyi has done nothing but score (when fit).
Current holder of the most expensive player is Ibrahim Sangare who topped Morgan Gibbs-White by 5 million when we paid out £30 million for him at the start of the 2023 season.
